In a publication on its official website, the agency states that "this new functionality is part of the modernisation and digitisation process of AIMA's services, with the aim of centralising, simplifying, and making them more accessible."
Renewal via the Portal
Those who possess residence certificates or cards covered by the aforementioned functionality must, through the Renewal Portal, apply for the issuance of the following documents: permanent residence certificate for EU nationals (Article 16) and permanent residence card for family members of EU nationals or third-country nationals (Article 17). Payment of the respective fees and submission of the necessary documents are also made through the portal.
According to AIMA, "the Renewal Portal will therefore become the channel for submitting and processing these requests, replacing the similar options previously available in the Contact Form."
It is also worth noting that requests made up to 30 June 2026 will not need to be changed if they were submitted using the previously used procedures. However, if they wish, they can make a new request through the new functionality.
If necessary, AIMA will notify the citizen to have their biometric data collected. If an appointment has already been scheduled, it remains the same.
Appointments already made
Appointments already made remain as indicated in the respective notification.
