The system has its core on the university campus, where a compass sculpture was fitted with 62 solar panels, producing enough electricity on its own to power a classroom full of computers in the arts and education building.

The project, financed by a sustainability grant of C$35,000 from the federal government and through technology donations, has already achieved a net profit, although researchers note that further innovations can be made to improve electrical efficiency.
