When FIFA announced prices for the 2026 World Cup, it offered tickets for the final priced between €3,650 and €9,600.
Four days before the final at MetLife Stadium, which will pit Spain against Argentina, ticket prices are proving prohibitive for ordinary football fans, and FIFA's website now only offers 'hospitality' and 'premium' tickets at even more unaffordable prices.
The cheapest tickets offered by FIFA are €13,115 for 'hospitality' and around €50,000 for the 'premium' option, in reserved areas with food and better visibility of the entire stadium.
On StubHub, Ticketmaster, and TickPick, the offers are very similar, ranging from €6,130 to €34,100 for regular tickets.
This is not the only investment for those going to the game, because, in addition to the high prices for accommodation and food, transportation to the stadium must be factored in, as arriving on foot is forbidden.
Public transport
Official trains to MetLife Stadium cost €85, and bus shuttles cost around €17.50.
On the other hand, ticket holders for the 2025 Women's European Championship games, which took place in Switzerland, were entitled to free public transport.
Outrage over high prices
Outrage over the prices charged by FIFA for the 2026 World Cup led the European Federation of Supporters (EFS) and the consumer protection organisation Euroconsumers, of which the Portuguese DECO is a part, to file a formal complaint with the European Commission in March.
