Diageo has confirmed a 7-cent increase in the wholesale price of a pint of Guinness from 3 February, marking the fifth rise in three years. Since 2023, wholesale prices have risen by roughly 35 cents per pint, while consumer prices have risen more sharply. Ireland has the highest alcohol and tobacco prices in the EU, more than double the EU average, according to Eurostat.

Industry sources cite labour, energy, transport, insurance and excise duties as contributing factors. High excise duties, around 55 cents per pint, and minimum unit pricing continue to influence retail costs. Dublin prices remain significantly higher than regional towns, with tourist areas such as Temple Bar exceeding national averages.
