According to Executive Digest, an alternative system will be created that allows candidates to drive with a tutor rather than exclusively with a driving school instructor.
The changes concern those aged 18 or older who are seeking a driver’s license in category B (passenger cars).
Radio Renascença reveals that the plan is for the tutor and driving school systems to be carried out simultaneously by the learner.
To join the tutor system, the driver’s license candidate must inform the driving school by email who their tutor will be and provide proof that they meet the legal requirements. The tutor can be an immediate family member, such as a mother or father. In general, the measure is an alternative to instruction and is not mandatory.
According to Executive Digest, accompanied driving is geographically limited, with municipalities defining the limits. It will also be mandatory to take out specific insurance that covers all damages that may be caused during the learning period. However, it is still up to the authorities to decide whether or not the applicant should obtain a driver’s license.
