“This is surely the ‘supposedly’ most happy time of the year! But unfortunately it also is the dreaded time, especially when it is animal-related. Most casualties and abandonees within the animal kingdom appearing through the coming two months or so.” APAA’s motto ‘Here to Help’ is sorely pushed to its limits, and asks their communities to try and help as much as they can during this trying time.
“If, for instance, you know of a dumped pet, or have an estranged animal unexpectedly arrive, please try and give it a warm space and bedding, food and fresh water until you can get help.” It is not a pleasant thought, that there are people who have no hearts and capable of dumping unaffordable unwanted pets; pregnant, old infirm or very young struggling animals at this the most treacherous time of the year.
In the dark, wet, windy and cold. “We do have some very kind hearted community members on which we rely.” Taking in an extra animal and sometimes several when a defenceless litter of newly born nearly frozen kittens or pups appear by the rubbish bin. A part of the Christmas ethic is also offering a human, on their own, some shelter, food and cheer. If you have a neighbour or know someone is going to be without company, please extend a hand of friendship. It costs so little when we have so much. As another saying goes… ‘There by the grace of God….’
The APAA charity shops are brimming with goodies, and there is always something suitable for that difficult gift. An extra place at the table? Look no further! After a hectic pop-up and event season, Jenny is busy ‘hubble-bubbling’ in her kitchen with the marvellous range she promises mouth-watering flavours and tastes. Chutneys, jams, marmalades and pickles make outstanding gifts, Festively dressed ready for their special place affordable to gift in sets. Savour, Sweet, Sour and Spicy all in a wonderful little affordable jar.
Money raised for their SNiP (sterilisation programme) amongst the feral cat-colonies and abandoned animals. Please, don’t forget a pet is not just for Christmas. Think twice when getting someone a four-pawed furry friend for a gift.
