Over recent months, APN staff have introduced the sport to schools nationwide, with Portuguese-speaking volunteers proving vital to the programme. APN is now calling for more Portuguese speakers to join the movement — no experience needed, as translation alone can make a huge impact.
New clubs are already thriving in Albufeira, Olhão, Lisbon, Tavira Academy, Cabanas Lionesses and Silves, alongside Tavira Academy, Lisbon Academy, Thunder Netball Club and long-established supporters Vilamoura Academy and Óbidos Netball Club.
Any other clubs out there please reach out and join us in the growth of Netball!
APN’s inclusive ethos continues to shine. The organisation’s 4th Walking Netball event in 2026 is already fully booked, with registration open for 2027. The first Lisbon Netball Festival, featuring three Portuguese teams, proved a major success and has sparked a surge of interest for the 2026 fixtures, which will also include mixed teams. Lisbon Festival November 2026 dates have been released: 7th & 8th November 2026.
APN thanks its partners — including: IDPJ, Sports Foundation Portugal, International Safeguards, local schools, Vilamoura Sports Academy, the Agriculture University of Lisbon, Tavira and Albufeira Câmara, Clinica Tavira — for their ongoing support.
As mini-leagues grow and youth participation surges, APN is focused on building a national Portuguese squad and driving the sport toward its five-year goal: putting Portugal firmly on the world netball map.
Portugal’s sporting spirit is unmatched — and with netball played in 81 countries, it’s time to challenge Europe’s biggest names.
