"Despite the short period between the announcement of the executive order and the start of the new regime, CTT is making every effort to implement the necessary changes to guarantee the provision of the postal service for sending merchandise to the United States in all shipping modes. The suspension will last as long as strictly necessary to implement these changes," explains the company, led by João Bento.

Shipments containing goods to the US can continue to be shipped through the Premium international product for CTT Expresso contract customers. This product allows shipments up to 30 kg with pickup and delivery at the most convenient location, with the recipients bearing the fees.

Starting Friday, the United States will charge customs duties of between US$80 and US$200 for each item (imported goods) valued at less than US$800. US President Donald Trump intends to "close a catastrophic loophole used, among other things, to avoid customs duties and ship synthetic opioids and other dangerous goods."

The decision comes three days after German carrier DHL, one of CTT's main partners, announced that it would limit shipments from individuals to the United States to those considered "gifts" and valued up to US$100. The Austrian postal service Österreichische Post, the Belgian Bpost, the Norwegian Bring, the Swedish-Danish Postnord, and the Spanish Correos followed suit.
