North American company Havi will invest €200 million in its technology innovation centre, Havi TechHub, in Lisbon, hire 70 more employees, and open new facilities in the capital.
In a statement, Havi—a global company specialising in integrated supply chain, logistics, and technology solutions—said it intends to increase the number of employees it employs at Havi TechHub "in the coming months" from the current 80 to 150.
"This decision reflects the recognition of national talent, the dynamism of the Lisbon technology ecosystem, and the affinity with Portuguese values of innovation, collaboration, and forward-thinking."
The North American company also announced that, "in the coming years," Havi TechHub will receive an investment of approximately 200 million euros, which will "directly contribute to local economic development and to Lisbon's positioning as a leading global technology hub."
The inauguration of Havi's new Lisbon facilities, in Cais do Sodré, is scheduled for September 17, at an event attended by the company's global president, Neil Humphrey, and Havi's senior vice president and CEO of Havi TechHub, Reto Sahli.
At the event, "major technological innovations, investments, and other milestones at a national and global level" will be presented. "This inauguration marks a strategic moment for Havi and reaffirms its commitment to Lisbon as the brand's global centre of technological excellence".
Founded in 1974 in Chicago, with a presence in three dozen markets and over 7,000 employees, Havi has been operating in Portugal since 1993, currently employing 250 people in Lisbon and Porto.

To say that the US is investing here because of the forward thinking and Innovation of the Portuguese is a joke. The Portuguese are none of that. You're investing because it's cheaper to hire a developer here than elsewhere.

Cheaper? Maybe
The backbone of any organization is it's people.
I think it was Cornelius Vanderbuilt who said"If I lost everything but still had my people I could rebuild".
I think more so than being inexpensive, they feel they can attract and retain quality people here.
Hopefully it will also be an outlet for University graduates and they will be hiring from within Portugal with decent paying jobs.
