The São Bartolomeu Fair has been held for 752 years, having been founded on August 8, 1273, by royal charter of King Afonso III.
The event features over 200 exhibitors of handicrafts, institutional products, economic activities, agricultural machinery, vehicles, gastronomy, and entertainment, spread across the Fairgrounds and the Trancoso Multipurpose Pavilion.
"We are a land of fairs, as there are many held in our municipality throughout the year, but the São Bartolomeu Fair is, without a doubt, the biggest of them all, one of the largest commercial events in the region and the one that brings the most people to Trancoso, year after year," said the mayor, Amílcar Salvador, in a statement to Lusa news agency.
The mayor admits that expectations for this edition are, "naturally," high.
"I have no doubt that 2025 will truly be the best São Bartolomeu Fair in recent years and that we will have more people than last year," when approximately 100,000 people registered over the ten days of the event.
According to the mayor, "more than just a fair for Trancoso, the São Bartolomeu Fair is the fair of a region, of a territory; it is, in fact, one of the largest commercial events in the entire region at this time of year."
The event, a highlight of the city's commercial and recreational calendar, has a "very significant" impact on the local economy.
"A very positive aspect of this impact is that ATMs are recording a much higher volume of payments and withdrawals this month, especially on the days of the fair, which is also a must-see meeting point for our emigrants," emphasizes Amílcar Salvador.
This year, the organizers have put together a musical lineup featuring Calema (Friday), Mariza (Saturday), Rouxinol Faduncho (Sunday), Dillaz (Monday), D.A.M.A. (Tuesday, the 12th), Wet Bed Gang (the 13th), Miguel Araújo (the 14th), Fernando Daniel (the 15th), Nêmanus (the 16th), Tiago Silva, and SPS Band (the 17th).
Every night ends with DJs, and on Sunday afternoon, the 37th Folklore Festival of the Trancoso Cultural and Recreational Association (ACR) takes place.
Admission costs 5 euros for Calema and Mariza's performances and 3 euros for subsequent shows. General admission costs 20 euros.
According to Amílcar Salvador, the budget for the 2025 edition of the São Bartolomeu Fair exceeds 600,000 euros.
