994,000 people went to Portuguese cinemas in June, 34.6% more than in the same period last year and the best result since 2019.

In terms of revenue, according to half-yearly data released by the Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual (ICA), Portuguese cinemas reached €6.5 million in June, the best June in this category since records began, at least since 2004, a factor that can be explained by increases in ticket prices.

June this year also saw a 41.8% increase in revenue compared to the same month last year.

In total, the first half of 2025 recorded €35.1 million in revenue and 5.5 million viewers, representing increases of 20.6% and 16.6% respectively compared to the previous year.

These figures mean that the first half of 2025 is also the best since 2019, when 6.7 million viewers and €35.6 million in revenue were recorded.

The most watched film of the year in the first half in Portugal was ‘Lilo and Stitch’, with 560,000 viewers and €3.5 million in revenue in just over a month since its premiere.

In terms of Portuguese films, the most watched film this year continues to be ‘On Falling’ by Laura Carreira, with 13,000 viewers and €75,000 in accumulated revenue since its premiere in March.
