In Portugal, there are more than 126,000 registered Local Accommodation (AL) units. But about 40% of these AL establishments have not reported data regarding the validity of mandatory insurance, and may even lose their activity registration, revealed the Ministry of Economy.
Specifically, there are 126,320 AL units registered in Portugal. And, of these, 76,433 have reported data regarding the validity of mandatory insurance, as revealed by the Ministry of Economy quoted by Público. But the other 49,887 AL establishments (about 39.5% of the total) did not comply with the reporting of insurance data.
Owners of AL establishments who have not yet submitted proof of insurance on the Gov.pt platform within the indicated deadline will be notified by the municipality with a new deadline to do so. But if they do not, the AL registration will be tacitly cancelled. By November 19th, 63 short-term rental (AL) registrations had already been cancelled due to a lack of insurance data submission, the same ministry source told the newspaper.
Currently, it is estimated that 6,829 short-term rental establishment registrations in the capital will be cancelled "due to a lack of insurance proof submissions," according to a source from the Lisbon City Council speaking to the same newspaper.
