This increase reflects the region's growing attractiveness, not only as a tourist destination but also as an area for permanent residence, according to the company. The analysis reveals that demand was highest in the municipalities of Barlavento (West Zone), which accounted for 56% of total demand, compared to the municipalities of Sotavento (East Zone), which accounted for 44%.

Among the 16 municipalities in the Algarve, Portimão leads as the most sought-after municipality, accounting for 20.4% of total demand. Albufeira comes in second with 18.5%, followed by Loulé, which accounts for 13.9%. The top seven are completed by the municipalities of Faro (12.3%), Silves (8.4%), Tavira, and Olhão (5.3% each). These seven municipalities accounted for 84% of total demand in the first eight months of the year, with Portimão and Albufeira in the Barlavento region and Loulé and Faro in the Sotavento region standing out.

According to RE/MAX, these differences in demand are directly related to the level of urbanization, economic dynamics, and the diversity of real estate offerings in each municipality. Municipalities with greater urban and economic development tend to attract more buyers and investors.

Property types

Regarding the most sought-after property types, between January 1st and August 31st, apartments accounted for 60% of total demand. However, two segments with different behaviors stand out. Specifically, land saw renewed interest in 2025, while demand for stores saw a sharp decline.

For Beatriz Rubio, CEO of RE/MAX Portugal, "The Algarve continues to establish itself as one of the most attractive regions in the country, not only for tourism, but also for living and investing. This growth in demand demonstrates the confidence of domestic and international buyers in a market that combines quality of life, stability, and potential for appreciation. RE/MAX has been committed to supporting this dynamic with a diverse offering and excellent service."
