In a statement, the Alentejo Coast Local Health Unit (ULSLA), in the district of Setúbal, revealed that authorisation for the use of this heliport was issued by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC).

With this certification, the heliport will now "be used exclusively for emergency medical operations, under VFR [visual flight rules] and H24 [any time of day or night] conditions, for three years," it explained.

According to the ULSLA board of directors, this is a "fundamental structure for the overall operation" of the unit.

It represents "an investment of approximately 600,000 euros using community funds, but also a significant financial effort" from the institution.

"It took five years to improve and repair the helipad and train our teams to operate it," it added.

In the same statement, the board of directors praised the fulfillment of "all mandatory legal requirements" for the use of the helipad, congratulating "those involved in the process," especially the ULSLA teams and the volunteer firefighters.
