Nestled in the picturesque fishing village of Ferragudo, this beach is a hidden gem where natural beauty and history meet. The striking Fort of São João do Arade rises above the south side of the beach, adding drama and history to this beach. It is also known as the Castle of São João do Arade.
This fort was built in the 15th century to serve as a lookout point, monitoring the traffic of ships and protecting the coast against pirate attacks. Together with the Fort of Santa Catarina in Portimão, this fort defended the area. It was severely damaged by the earthquake in 1755 and later restored during the reign of D. Maria I. Currently, the castle is closed to the public, as it is privately owned, after having belonged to the former Minister for the Portuguese Colonies. But you can still admire the imposing walls from the shore.

Angrinha Beach is technically a river beach, as it's located along the Arade River. The waters are very calm, perfect for a peaceful swim. During low tide, you can stroll along the castle to reach the next beach. At the end of the beach, you will find a beach bar called "Escondidinho". The name of the restaurant means "hidden". Which totally makes sense as it's not the easiest place to spot. This bar is open all year round, just closed on Mondays and it’s a great stop if you’re in the mood for a drink or snack by the water. If you continue walking, you will arrive at Praia Grande, a larger beach with more facilities, which can be considered the main beach of Ferragudo.
Angrinha beach is very quiet, with no big resorts around. Across the Arade River, you can see the marina of Portimão. It is located close to the centre of Ferragudo, so you can enjoy a lovely morning at the beach and then take a short walk to the centre to grab some lunch.
Fishing tradition remains strong here. If you are lucky, you can see traditional fishing boats getting pulled up on the beach. Some people bring a fishing rod to fish directly from the shore.
There is a large car park with plenty of parking spaces, just behind Praia da Angrinha.
For great views of the beach and the fort, visit The Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Lady of the Conception), which is situated in the upper part of the town.
