According to provisional data from Algarve Hotel and Tourism Association (AHETA) on room occupancy rates in Algarve accommodation units in July, Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) reached approximately 160 euros.
"The room occupancy rate was 84.6%, slightly higher than the figure recorded in 2024 (up 0.7 percentage points)," AHETA stated in a statement.
The Faro district business association indicated that the tourist source markets that contributed most to this increase were the national market (up 2.6 percentage points), the German market (up 1.1 percentage points), and the North American market (up 1.0 percentage points).
Conversely, "the Irish market recorded an annual decline of 27.1%, corresponding to a 2.0 percentage point decrease in the occupancy rate per registered bed, and the British market recorded an 8.3% decrease (down 1.8 percentage points)."
According to AHETA, accommodation recorded an average stay of 4.1 nights, a figure "0.7 nights lower than that recorded in the same month of the previous year," the business association also noted.
Tourists with the longest average stays were from the German market, with 7.0 nights, the Danish market, with 6.1 nights, and the Belgian market, with 5.7 nights, it stated.
“RevPAR increased by 8.0%, approaching 160 euros,” AHETA.
I’m sure it has absolutely nothing to do with 3 hour waits at passport control and the ongoing strikes. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you….

As others have said, the 3hrs plus time time to get through Faro Airport puts Brits and Irish off going to the Algarve. With direct flights from USA to Faro going to commence I cannot see the Americans being happy with 3 hrs to clear passport control.

Mark Barber there re plenty of tourists form all over Europe who do not need to queue up. The iris are separated at passport control, so your attitude saying the “ Hand that feeds you is so far off the mark. Maybe you should look at where most of your fresh produce originates, when asking about the hand that feeds, Europe never asked you to leave.

The comments about Irish / Brits being put off by long waits are without merit. Irish passengers carry EU passports. Brits don't & are enjoying Brexit Benefits (apparently). Living in Algarve for 3 years now & 2025 is the most touristed we've seen. Great to see a lot more Portuguese families on holiday. A few Brits who decide to stay away really won't matter - I suspect it's going to be a bumper year when the receipts are tallied up.

The time it takes to get through airport checks at Faro is ridiculous and unnecessary just two more people checking passports or in some cases opening the electronic gates would help the situation greatly, but it seems the Portuguese government don’t want this and are happy to see British holiday makers waiting to enter the country. If things don’t change the British will stop coming in the same numbers as before
