Some performances even include the added bonus of visual interpretation in dance. The festival is called "The Other Nights of Albufeira". The main stage will be built at the Albufeira Marina and with seating for 2000 ticketholders.

Where the bars and beaches attract so many visitors in the summer, and traditional Portuguese festivals are abundant, the planned performances are intended to provide classical music entertainment for all tastes, creating a cultural platform for some of the most prominent artists, dance companies and orchestras from Portugal for the benefit of visitors and locals alike. The long-term aim is to build upon the promise of this season, creating continuity and outreach in the way that Algarve 365 did, before it was abandoned.

The series starts on July 5, when the acclaimed Portuguese pianist António Rosado, accompanied by the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa will perform Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F, a piece that echoes many of the jazz themes of the 1920’s with strong rhythmic elements that were emblematic of the development of American music.

The second event on July 19 is equally inspiring. This is the collaboration of the artistic director, Armando Mota, in his role as composer, and the internationally-renowned choreographer Daniel Cardoso, whose dance company Quorum Ballet will present the new ballet "Storm". The theme of this work is the existential impact climate change may have upon coastal communities. Set in our own region and the islands of the Rio Formosa, this work was premiered in Faro in January of this year and will be incorporated into the body of work of Quorum Ballet and hopefully tour the world shortly.

The third concert on August 16 focuses on the cultural patrimony of Portuguese fado, however with a twist. Recordings of the haunting voice of the queen of Lisbon fado, Amália Rodrigues will be accompanied in symphonic form by 40 members of the Orquestra Clássica de Lisboa, a traditional "guitarra portuguesa" and including the participation of the singer, Anabela. All performed under the baton of Rui Pinheiro, who has formerly collaborated with the Orquestra do Algarve.

On the August 21, the centre of the action moves to the Praia dos Pescadores, where the full complement of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Algarve will be leading the Albufeira Municipal Day celebration in a free concert of favourite film score music, conducted by Armando Mota.

The final element of this exciting cultural programme takes place on September 10 on the stage in the Marina. The powerful and dramatic "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff will be interpreted by the Vortice Dance Company. This reworking is described as, "a celebration of the intersection between past and present, between classical art and contemporary innovation", using immersive, mixed media to complement the intensity of the dance and music.

The tickets for these prestigious and diverse programmes on the Albufeira Marina stage are priced at an accessible 20€ and tickets are available on Ticketline.
