With last season's triumph, the 'lions' now have 18 trophies, compared to 20 for FC Porto, who finished the game with 10 men after the Argentine Alan Varela was sent off in the 89th minute, and 26 for record holders Benfica.
In the final, Sporting will face a club from a secondary level, either Torreense, from the Second League, or Fafe, from League 3, clubs that will play the second leg on 23 April in Torres Vedras.
