While Lisbon and Porto typically dominate the conversation, the Algarve has steadily been carving out its own reputation – not only for its beaches and weather, but for its growing ecosystem of spaces designed to support flexible, modern work. At the heart of this movement is CoLagos, the municipal coworking network of Lagos. And among its hubs lies a small but remarkably forward-thinking location: the CoLagos coworking space in Barão de São João.

Located in a quiet village on the outskirts of Lagos, the Barão de São João hub represents a thoughtful departure from traditional urban coworking culture. Rather than leaning into the energy of a bustling city centre, it embraces the peaceful character of rural life. The space sits on Rua 25 de Abril, within the facilities of the Parish of Barão de São João, in a modest building whose simplicity mirrors the village’s laid-back atmosphere. Yet inside, professionals find the essential infrastructure and connectivity expected of a modern workspace.

With ten workstations, a meeting room, a communal area equipped with essential amenities, and a balcony offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, the Barão de São João location is intentionally intimate. It is more than just a place to work. It’s a space where creativity, collaboration, and community come together. Surrounded by nature, this municipal coworking hub provides an inspiring environment for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads looking to balance productivity with well-being. The Barão de São João space reflects a slower rhythm of life, ideal for those who value focus, simplicity, and meaningful connections. Users can choose daily passes, monthly plans, or dedicated desks depending on their needs, benefiting from the flexibility of the CoLagos network designed to support diverse working styles.

Stepping outside, the village of Barão de São João adds a unique charm to the experience. Known for its artistic community, forest trails, and relaxed lifestyle, it attracts a blend of locals and internationals who value creativity, nature, and community. For remote workers, this offers something that most coworking spaces cannot: an authentic sense of place.

Just a short drive away, the main CoLagos space in Lagos brings this same spirit into a more urban setting, connecting the energy of the city with the innovation and collaborative values that define the project. Together, the two hubs create a complementary ecosystem – one grounded in tranquillity, the other in urban dynamism

The CoLagos project as a whole is the result of a joint initiative between the Municipality of Lagos and (A)Garra – Lagos Youth Association, who joined forces to create a network of coworking spaces designed to support remote workers, local professionals, and young entrepreneurs across the municipality. The Municipality provides strategic leadership and infrastructure, ensuring long-term sustainability and regional development, while (A)Garra contributes its youth-centered vision, community experience, and operational management. Together, they have shaped CoLagos Municipal Coworking Project into a pioneering public-community partnership that expands opportunities for professional growth and innovation throughout the Lagos region.

Together, both spaces embody the essence of modern work in the Algarve. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat in the countryside or a vibrant hub in the city, CoLagos is where work and life naturally meet.
