In a statement sent to the Lusa news agency, the Beja-based company stated that the project to modernize and reconvert its recycling sorting facilities "aims to strengthen the processing capacity" of these facilities.

The investment is estimated at over eight million euros and is financed by approximately 5.8 million euros from the Alentejo 2030 regional operational program and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

In the statement, Resialentejo explained that the project "includes several interventions, namely the sorting of the packaging flow, with the installation of a new sorting centre with fixed equipment and adaptation work to the existing warehouse."

In addition, the investment also includes "the acquisition of a telescopic forklift and the execution of the contract to supply electricity to the new plant."

As for the paper and cardboard flow, "the remodelling of the existing sorting centre and the acquisition of mobile handling equipment, namely two mini-loaders and a telescopic forklift," are planned.

Regarding the sorting of selectively collected bulky recyclables, Resialentejo's project "includes the construction of a new warehouse for the sorting centre," which has already been completed.

Also planned are "the supply and installation of a bulky waste shredder and the acquisition of a wheeled waste grinder equipped with a sieve."

Founded in 2004, Resialentejo is responsible for treating urban waste in the Alentejo municipalities of Almodôvar, Barrancos, Beja, Castro Verde, Mértola, Moura, Ourique, and Serpa.

The company serves a total of 86,505 inhabitants, spanning a geographic area of 6,650 square kilometres.
