Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Lisbon on November 13th, at 9 a.m., on Rua Hermínio da Palma Inácio, in Alta de Lisboa, the Spanish group announced this Tuesday.
"This new opening represents an important step in Mercadona's expansion, as it marks the brand's arrival in Lisbon, six years after beginning its expansion in Portugal," reads a statement released by the company.
This new supermarket, it explains, "will generate around 90 new, stable, high-quality jobs, with permanent contracts from day one, thus contributing to the creation of local jobs."
"The new facilities will include a corporate office, which will complement the office already open in Vila Nova de Gaia since 2020, where the company has its headquarters in Portugal," the statement further states.
Regarding the store, it "will have a sales area of approximately 1,900 m2, with wide aisles, allowing for comfortable shopping, divided into the Deli, Fishmonger's, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Butcher's, Fruit and Vegetables, and Ready-to-Eat sections."
"The opening of this new supermarket reflects the continuation of Mercadona's national expansion plan, reaching out to the "Bosses" (customers) who have long been asking for a store in the capital," the company notes.
October is a busy month for Mercadona, as the Spanish group plans to open three supermarkets this month. The latest date was announced by the Spanish brand this week: a new supermarket will open in Palmela, Setúbal, on October 30th, at 9 a.m., at Rua de São Julião, No. 3.
Before that, Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Frielas, Loures, on October 16th, at 9 a.m., at Rua do Bom Jardim, No. 2. This month, it opened a store in São Gens (Matosinhos).
Mercadona, which already has more than 60 stores in Portugal, announced that it will open its first supermarkets in Lisbon in November, located in Alta de Lisboa and Quinta do Lambert (Lumiar).
The two new supermarkets in the capital will create 180 jobs, according to a statement obtained by Notícias ao Minuto. The Spanish brand is already recruiting for these two stores.
"The positions available at these stores are for supermarket operators and maintenance assistants. All positions include a training period, with a permanent contract, and are paid from day one. Furthermore, during this period, all expenses are covered by the company—food, transportation, lodging, and also travel home every two weeks for all employees," the company explains.
