The largest contract, valued at €5.27 million, concerns the requalification of the Santa Joana Museum, with a completion period of 540 days. The project will focus on the historical zone, the church, and the former cloister, addressing structural problems such as water infiltration and dampness that have persisted since the last intervention 16 years ago. The works will also significantly improve the building’s energy efficiency.

Another key project is the remodelling of the former Municipal Library, set to house the future Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art. Awarded for €4.72 million and also with a 540-day timeframe, the intervention aims to restore the original building’s identity by removing later additions, while incorporating a new modern architectural volume on the site of the old gardens. The museum will display the municipal collection developed through successive editions of the Aveiro International Artistic Ceramics Biennial.

The council also approved three further projects: the construction of a new support building for the Cacia swimming pools and fairgrounds (€2.22 million, 540 days), the requalification of the former Vera Cruz Parish Council building - the Adro School (€809,746, 180 days), and the rehabilitation of the Azurva-Esgueira and Alagoas-Santa Joana-Area 3 road links (€1.67 million,365 days).

According to the municipality, these investments reflect the council’s strategy to enhance cultural, recreational, and infrastructural facilities across Aveiro, while safeguarding historic heritage and improving community services.
