The National Maritime Authority, through the crew of the Ferragudo Lifeguard Station and members of the SeaWatch Project, rescued, late on the morning of Saturday, July 5, “two men near the Benagil caves, an unmonitored area, in the municipality of Lagoa”.

During a patrol and surveillance operation at sea, carried out on non-bathing beaches, the crew of the Lifeguard Station and members of the SeaWatch Project detected “two men swimming off the coast of the caves, one of them in difficulty”.

According to the statement, “the victims, who were fine and did not require medical attention, were rescued and transported to Benagil beach, where they were safe.”

In light of the incident, the National Maritime Authority made a clear appeal to the population, reminding them that “swimming outside of bathing areas is prohibited between Vale do Lapa Beach and Albandeira Beach, due to the high number of boats in the area. This activity must take place on bathing beaches with a swimmer assistance device in place.”
