Sponsored by Pestana and supported by numerous Algarve businesses, the event will feature live music from “The Poor Man’s Band” and promises an afternoon of friendship, entertainment and purpose.
For several years, residents across the Algarve have shown remarkable compassion through social fundraising events organised with “The Poor Man’s Band”. Their efforts have helped fund specially adapted ambulances sent directly to the Ukrainian front line — vehicles that are genuinely saving lives.

ORANTA Portugal coordinates and supports humanitarian initiatives for Ukraine, focusing particularly on the provision of essential medical transport. Working alongside Roman Grymalyuk, the driving force behind the ambulance project, funds raised in the Algarve have helped convert twenty-eight 4x4 vehicles into fully functioning ambulances capable of operating in war-damaged and difficult terrain. Tragically, many more are still urgently required.
Last October, a group of volunteer soldiers serving on the front line were offered a brief respite from their daily ordeal. A generous Algarve resident provided a week’s accommodation and activities in a luxury villa in Lagos, allowing them time to rest and recover.
Angela Broad, who leads the fundraising efforts locally, met the young volunteers during their stay. She was deeply moved to discover that they were fully aware of the Algarve events and the community’s support.

“It was incredibly emotional,” Angela said. “They thanked not only me but all the residents of the Algarve. This has become very personal for us. Now, in the fourth year of this horrendous conflict, we simply cannot stop helping.”
By night, these volunteers — many of whom hold regular day jobs — wait in bunkers for emergency calls to collect injured soldiers from the front line, using the very ambulances funded by Algarve residents. Their work is dangerous, relentless and lifesaving.
The Ukrainian Ambassador to Portugal will attend the March 15th luncheon accompanied by her First Minister, underlining the significance of the support coming from the Algarve community.
Tickets for the Charity Lunch are €45.
