WDP is celebrated globally by Christians on the first Friday in March: it’s a wave of prayer and worship that begins with dawn in the Pacific islands and then sweeps around the world throughout the day.
This year’s service is written by the women of Nigeria. Every year WDP highlights the real-life experiences of people in different parts of the world, from the tranquillity of the Cook Islands to the conflict of the Middle East.
WDP services are joyful, creative and ecumenical: there will be a music group to enliven the worship, and a chance to get together afterwards over a coffee and some refreshments inspired by the flavours of Nigeria.
World Day of Prayer 2026 services will take place at 11am on Friday 6 March in Praia da Luz at the Salão Paroquial behind the church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, and in Tavira at Mehfil Restaurant, Praça Dr. António Padinha. More information: worlddayofprayer.algarve@gmail.com
