In October 2025, the canal reported its highest monthly rate of returning vessels since the crisis began in November 2023, when Houthi militants targeted merchant ships sailing through the Red Sea.


The Suez Canal Authority is inviting shipping lines to conduct trial voyages and offering incentives to get operations back. Traffic from July to October 2025 included 4,405 vessels, signalling a gradual recovery from a 60 percent decline when vessels rerouted around the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.
